By offering a VPN service, the provider who actually developed anti-virus software now wants to jump on the bandwagon and get into the business of VPN services. Institutional investors insist on the application of US laws on surveillance and privacy.
F-secure FREEDOME: Neither a full VPN service nor "security before surveillance
F-Secure is trying to do right by everyone in a frightening way and fails to meet even the simplest and most important challenges. VPN sites are offered in some countries, but it is not possible to use the protocol used. Firewalls in various countries such as China, Turkey, etc. are not being bypassed. Therefore the service is not suitable to use the Internet freely even in restrictive networks when travelling. The software does not protect against WebRTC leakage and does not use anonymous DNS servers. The servers are all rented VPN servers whose logging is neither excluded nor actively prevented. If you want to be able to surf the Internet without recording and without being monitored by the government, F-secure will not be the right solution for you.
The usage data is recorded.
The use of a VPN should actually also protect your own privacy. In the case of vno F-Secure, however, detailed usage and activities of the users are logged. In this way, users place their own privacy in the hands of a company backed by investors. In a direct comparison with other VPN providers, no anonymization or secure use can be guaranteed.
Free FREEDOME trial version already collects data
In the free trial version, which the company offers, user data is already collected, including real IP, location, device in use, other programs installed on the device and much more. The users who install the free trial of FREEDOME also agree to all other terms and conditions, which already include the use of the data for advertising of other products. Likewise, these acquired data may already be passed on to third parties. We therefore strongly advise against installing the trial version for data protection reasons, unless you intend to use the service anyway and thus accept the prices, conditions, etc.
The application software to use the service is limited to Windows, macOS, Android and Apple iOS. No other devices will be able to be used. External devices such as FireTV, Kodi, Vu+ Receiver or VPN router are not supported!
F-Secure FREEDOME absolutely not suitable for torrent or streaming.
The Provider also prohibits in its terms and conditions the use of the Service for activities that may also involve a potential risk of copyright infringement. Therefore, the Service is in no case suitable for users who also represent websites outside of the Internet mainstream. Open video applications such as KODI always bear the risk that contents whose copyright status cannot be fully clarified are also transferred. F-Secure should therefore only be used by people who have no need for protection from any content that does not correspond to the main media. This should limit the circle of users to those who have no need for further privacy or protection of personal data anyway.
Price of F-Secure FREEDOME
There are 3 different F-Secure Freedome tariff packages available for purchase. They differ in the simultaneous use of devices (caution: this does not refer to connections, as is the case with other VPNs). This makes the service one of the most expensive in the industry, and the cost of the service is not reasonably related to the services offered. In addition, many of the really relevant security settings can only be used if you buy additional software solutions offered by F-Secure. As a result, the price of a single device for use continues to rise .
